Relevance of hydrodynamic interactions in some soft matter systems out of equilibrium
While solvent effects are present in most soft matter and biological systems, the effect of hydrodynamics is frequently not known in non-equilibrium conditions. In this talk, I will present a few examples for which this effect has been quantified, like flexible linear, star-like, or helicoidal polymers in shear flow, and the appearance of various collective behaviors in self-propelled phoretic swimmers. I will also summarize recent research of chiral active matter where hydrodynamics shows to result in the simultaneous emergence of turbulence and odd viscosity.
